LIZZIE MENCKE

Services for Lucinda Geneva Tracy Christ Mencke, age 95 and ten days, who died March 27, 1986, were held at the First United Methodist Church in Blair on March 31. Dr. Howard Bailey officiated and burial was in Blair Cemetery.

Mrs. Mencke was born March 17, 1891 in Washington County to Nicholas and Emma Barbara Dettmar Christ. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Borgia and attended McCarthy school. She belonged to the Royal Neighbors.

She was married to Otto Mencke March 16, 1910 and to that union 12 daughters and one son were born. The Menckes spent their lives in Washington County.

The Menckes were well-known farmers Northwest of Blair for 28 years. In 1938 they left the farm and moved to Kennard. In 1940 they moved to Blair.

Mrs. Mencke always had a large garden and loved flowers. She enjoyed making quilts, too.

They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with a dance in Ft. Calhoun and their 50th with a dance in Herman. In 1969 they sold their home and moved to the Parkview Manor.

In 1980 Mrs. Mencke entered the Good Shepherd Home, where she lived until going to the Blair Memorial Community Hospital where she died.

She had two brothers, Otto and John; three sisters, Louise Gustin, Olevea Matzen and Mary McCracken. She was preceded in death by her husband Otto in 1972, son Donald and daughters Gertrude and Minnie.

Surviving daughters are: Mrs. Charles Hartley (Emma), Tacoma, Washington; Mrs. John Anderson (Pearl), Kennard, Nebraska; Mrs. Edward Cushman (Martha), New Port, Nebraska; Mrs. Robert Brothers (Betty), Mo. Valley, Iowa; Mrs. Roy Rapp (Norma) Benson, Arizona; Delores Kochner, Lincoln, Nebraska; Mrs. Bill Aronson (Barbara) Overland Park, Kansas; Sophie Hineline, Helen Hineline, and Mrs. Willard Warrick,(Opal) all of Blair.

Other survivors are: daughter-in-law Mrs. Stan Carnes (Betty) and sons-in-laws, Charley Hartley, Rudy Thaden, John Anderson, Edward Cushman, Willard Warrick, Robert Brothers, Roy Rapp and Bill Aronson; over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Singer was Roger Thaden, a grandson. Organist was Patricia Watts.

Pallbearers included Tom Mencke, Robert Brothers, Donald Brothers, Willard Warrick Jr., Mike Cushman and William Aronson.
