RACHEL V. MENGEDOHT, 87

Rachel V. Mengedoht, 87 of Fremont, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Nye Pointe (Fremont Care Center).

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at the Ludvigsen Mortuary Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Charles W. Bichel will officiate. Interment will follow at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery at Fontanelle.

Visitation was held on Monday, Sept. 25, at Ludvigsen Mortuary from 1 to 9 p.m. It will also be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 9 a.m. until service time.

Rachel V. Mengedoht was born on Feb. 26, 1913 to Dennis and Ella (Longwell) Osburn on the Oscar Blum farm near Herman.

She attended school at Belle Center.

On Feb. 26, 1934, she was married to LeRoy A. Mengedoht at Blair. She and her husband became residents of Fremont in December of 1961. Mrs. Mengedoht was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church of Fontanelle since 1946, previously belonging to the Alder Grove Church and the Admah Church. She had been active in the Jolly Friendship Club. She served on the Belle Center school board, the Sheridan Township board, and the Sheridan Township election board.

Mrs. Mengedoht was an excellent seamstress, and cared for two of her grandchildren after the death of their mother as the result of a car-train accident.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Stanley Wilkinson of Oakdale; a son and daughter-in-law, Victor L. and Janie Mengedoht of Hooper; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Charlotte and Merida Odle of Hooper.

She was preceded in death by her husband; five sisters; and a brother. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer’s research.

Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont is in charge of arrangements.
