Catherine M. Kempcke, 79

Catherine Mabel Kempcke, 79, of Blair died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Kennard. Her cremains will be buried at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell at a later date.

Catherine M. Kempcke was born August 9, 1926, in Elkhorn to Emil and Louise (Rolfs) Warstat. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn and graduated from Elkhorn High School.

During World War II, she worked at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant.

She married Warren Kempcke on October 13, 1945, in Fremont. They farmed and raised cattle in the Kennard area for many years before moving to Blair in 1979.

“Cathy,” as her friends knew her, worked for 29 years at Great Plains communication. She was past-president of both the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and Kennard American Legion Auxiliary where she volunteered and took an active part in their numerous charities. Her grand-daughters were one of her main interests.

Mrs. Kempcke is survived by her husband, Warren; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dennis Park of West Linn, Ore.; two granddaughters; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sisters, Ruby, Myrtle, Louise, Lorna; and brother, Chris.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Catherine Mabel was born August 9, 1926, in Elkhorn, Nebraska to Emil and Louise (Rolfs) Warstat. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Elkhorn and graduated from Elkhorn High School.

She was united in marriage to Warren Kempcke on October 13, 1945 in Fremont, Nebraska. Their precious daughter Susan was born in Omaha, Nebraska.

During World War II, Catherine worked at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant, which at that time was presented the Army-Navy Award for production in the war effort.

Cathy, as her friends knew her, worked for 29 years for Great Plains Communications in Blair, NE.

She was a past president of both the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary and Kennard American Legion Auxiliary, in which she took an active part as well as volunteering in their numerous charities.

Her two granddaughters, Heather and Danielle, were one of her main interests.

She and Warren farmed and raised cattle in the Kennard area for many years before moving to Blair in 1979.

Catherine died Friday, Feb. 17, 2006, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair at the age of 79 years.

Catherine is mourned by her husband, Warren, daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Dennis Park of West Linn, Oregon; two granddaughters, Heather Ford and Danielle Park, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Ruby, Myrtle, Louise, Lorna, and one brother, Chris.

Her cremains will be interred at Fort McPherson National Cemetery, Maxwell, NE at a later date.

In lieu of traditional remembrances, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
