A Washington County man, David Hovendick, 24, of Herman, was involved in a fatal accident near Hooper on Saturday afternoon.

Killed in the accident was Mrs. Iris Fergus, 50 of Omaha. The Nebraska Safety Patrol said she was a passenger in a car driven by her husband, Donald. Two other passengers in the car were not injured.

The Patrol said the Fergus auto was westbound on 275 when it approached a construction area, the site of a dike being built near Hooper.

Hovendick was reportedly driving a heavy piece of construction equipment when the Fergus car was struck broadside.

A flagman reported that the auto did not stop and drove in front of the construction equipment that was crossing the road.
