Henry Kempcke Dies At Kennard Home

Had Been County Resident Over Forty Years

Henry Kempcke, 85, a retired farmer, passed away shortly after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, at his home in Kennard. He had been about the house as usual for some days and had just carried in a pail of water after having eaten a light lunch. Sitting down in his rocker to rest a bit, he called to his wife to come to him and just as she reached his side he passed away. Mr. Kempcke was born in Germany where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Johanna Gradert in Germany where three of his children, Gus, Ida and Otto, were born. Forty-eight years ago Mr. and Mrs. Kempcke and children and his parents came to America, settling first in Douglas county and then in Washington county where they have since resided. Twenty years ago he quit farming and moved to Kennard to live until death claimed him. He is survived by his aged wife, four sons, Charles and Otto of Lyons, Gus and Paul of Kennard; four daughters, Mrs. Lee Webb, Hastings, Mrs. G.E. Kronberg, Mrs. Clyde Rosenbaum and Mrs. Fred Andreasen; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and scores of friends.

Short funeral services were held at the home followed by a service at the Methodist church last Saturday afternoon, Rev. E.P. Booher officiating. Interment was made at the Kennard cemetery.

Note: Henry is buried in the Kennard Cemetery in Blk 3 Lot 20 Sp 3.
