Services Held For Blair Woman’s Father

Funeral services were Tuesday, July 5, at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha, Kansas, for Ralph Bent Kerr, 65, of Goodland, Kansas, who died July 2, 1983, at the Northwest Kansas Regional Medical Center. Burial was in the Sabetha Cemetery.

Ralph Bent Kerr was born February 7, 1918, near Sabetha to Truman and Elsie Brown Kerr. He was raised in the Sabetha area.

He began his trucking career in 1948 with Watson Bros. Trucking, which later became Yellow Freight Lines of Omaha. He later lived in Liberal and Goodland, Kansas, and had over 25 years in safe driving awards as a trucker.

He married Myrtle Linn of Wetmore April 5, 1942. They had one daughter, Rebecca (Becky). They were divorced November 10, 1952.

He married Elayne Parks of Omaha on February 20, 1969, at Papillion, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his father, Truman Kerr.

He is survived by his wife, Elayne; his daughter, Rebecca Ann Kaiser of Blair; a step-daughter, Sandra June Filkins of Goodland, Kansas; and a step-son, Jack E. Connell with the United States Air Force in Las Vegas, Nevada. His mother, Elsie Kerr; four sisters, Elva Spiker of Holton, Kansas, Evelyn Cooper of St. Augustine, Florida, Edna Finch of Marion, Indiana, and Robert Mishler of Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren also survive him.

Pallbearers were Kenneth Filkins, Pete Kaiser, Jr., Jess Kaiser, Ivan Spiker, Quentin Spiker and Marvin Brungardt.

Marsha Strahm was organist. John Walton provided the vocal selections, “In the Garden,” and “Rock of Ages.”
