DENICE VERDAYNE MENZE, 75

Funeral services were Wednesday, February 21 at 10 a.m. at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home for Denice Verdayne Menze, 75, who died February 17, 1990 at home. Rev. Dan Ritter of Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair officiated.

Visitation was from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Denice Verdayne Menze was born January 29, 1915 in Lincoln, the daughter of Andrew and Minnie Stamer. She graduated from Ulysses High School in Ulysses, Nebraska in 1932.

She married Walter Menzes in Gresham, Nebraska in 1933. After their marriage, they farmed for a short period of time and lived in several communities.

They located in Omaha in 1942 where he opened an independent auto repair shop in north Omaha in 1945. She served as bookkeeper for the repair shop until Menze’s retirement in 1977.

They had lived in Fort Calhoun since 1973.

She was a licensed private pilot. She was active in the Ninety-Nines, a national organization of women pilots.

She was preceded in death by a son, Stanley.

She is survived by her husband, Walter; sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Betty Menze, Lisle, Illinois; and Jay and Agnes Menze, LaGrande, Oregon; a daughter-in-law, Jeannine Menze, Omaha; a brother, William Stamer, Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister, Lorrayne Doehling, Surprise, Nebraska; and six grandchildren.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements for the services.
