Jurene Merselis, 91, of Blair, died Thursday, August 10, 2006, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Blair. There will be no public service. A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Jurene Merselis was born January 2, 1915, to Earl R. and Llewellya Vanatta in Bayard. She graduated from Bayard High School in 1932, and attended Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. She was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority and a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for over 50 years.

After college, she held stenographic positions in Lincoln and Omaha. She married Harrold Kenneth Merselis on September 6, 1940. During her husband’s medical internship in Detroit, Mich., she worked for the O.W. Burke Construction Company. Throughout their marriage, they made their home in Audubon, Iowa; Maui, Hawaii; and Blair.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Joanne and Charles Gjerde of Blair; and Patricia Merselis and Marrion Littlepage of Las Vegas, Nev.; sons and daughters-in-law, Kent and Carol Merselis of Phoenix, Ariz.; James and Catherine Merselis of Sammamish, Wash.; and John Merselis of Blair; seven gradnchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Harold; and sister, Earlyn (Vanatta) Sishc.

Memorials are suggested to the donor’s favorite charity.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
