Former Arlington resident, Barb Merz, 64, died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, at the Granby (Colo.) Medical Center due to complications from a motorcycle accident.

Funeral services are at noon on Friday, Oct. 5, at Our Lady of the Snow Catholic Church in Granby, Colo.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Foran-Schoenfeld Mortuary in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo., with a Rosary following. Visitation continues Friday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the church.

She was born March 4, 1943, in Brookings, S.D. She spent her youth in Cedar Falls, Iowa, before entering pre-veterinary studies at Iowa State University. She ultimately became a registered nurse, graduating from the University of Iowa with her Nursing Degree.

She married Gene Merz August 13, 1966. The Merzs lived on an acreage near Arlington from 1969 until 2001 before retiring in the Rocky Mountains near Granby, Colo.

Her greatest joys were her family and friends. She had a special talent of putting everyone around her at ease with conversation, laughter, and food. She opened her heart to her children’s friends, brought them into her home, and treated them as her own. She loved traveling and being outdoors on her horses, 4-wheelers, and snowmobiles.

She was an accomplished carpenter and talented painter. No project was too big for her to tackle. She was very involved in education; the Catholic Church; and volunteer work, having served on school boards; volunteering at the blood bank; and facilitated CCD classes, Adult Christian Education, and Bible studies throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband, Gene; her four children, Naomi, Monte, Shane, and Tucker, and two granddaughters.
