Leo Stafford, 81 of Decatur, died Friday, September 8, 1989 at the Butler County Hospital in David City, Nebraska after a long illness.

Leo was born on February 4, 1908 at Decatur to Thalmer Albert and Amanda Belle (Houts) Stafford. He married Golda H. Jarman May 18, 1932. Mrs. Stafford died September 12, 1978.

Leo did construction work for most of his life, and for the last few years worked for the City of Decatur doing maintenance work at the Decatur City Hall. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he was also a member of the Decatur Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6926 and Decatur American Legion Post No. 215. Leo was also a long-time member of the Decatur United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Golda Mae Meyer of Hastings; Elaine Mitchell of Macy; and Rose Ann Hayes of David City; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; five sisters, Eva Saunders, Irene Anderson and Helen Pyle, all of Storm Lake, Iowa; and Ruth Dimmick and Donna Doll, both of Decatur; and one brother, Jack Stafford of Omaha.

Leo was preceded in death by his wife; parents; three sons, Leroy, Ronnie and Vern; two sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services were September 11, at Decatur United Methodist Church with Rev. Marion H. Knoell officiating. Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Decatur with military graveside honors conducted by the Decatur V.F.W. and American Legion Posts.
