Services were Monday, October 23, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home for Edith A. Stanley, 94 who died October 21, 1989 at Crowell Memorial home. Rev. Ronald W. Miers, Chaplain at Crowell Home officiated. Interment was in the Fort Calhoun Cemetery.

Edith Abigale Stanley was born March 3, 1895 on a farm in Southern Washington County in the Coffman neighborhood, now known as Nashville. She was the only daughter of Almon and Hettie Preston Stanley and lived her entire life in Washington County in Fort Calhoun and Blair areas, except for a few months in Omaha.

Her mother died in March, 1910 and at the age of 15 she began her household duties for her father and brothers. In 1913, they moved to a farm north of Fort Calhoun and then moved back to Coffman in 1914.

Her brother was drafted in World War I and the rest of the family moved to Omaha in 1918. In the spring of 1920 her brothers rented a farm in the Cruickshank area south of Blair and she joined them there. In 1924, they moved into the Long Creek area, living on several different farms until 1944 when they purchased the Wm. Lorenzen farm, moving there in 1945. They made their home there until 1983 when they moved to Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Blair. She was also a member of the Fort Calhoun Woman’s Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her four brothers, Dwight, Harvey, Walter, and Lester.

She is survived by a niece, Pearl Hender of California; and two nephews, Floyd Stanley of Council Bluffs, and John Stanley of Valley and by grand nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were John Lorenzen, Phil Lorenzen, Carl Lorenzen, Lester Stanley, Emil Lorsch and Morton Steyer.

Music was furnished by Carol Sprick, organist; and Laura Dey, soloist.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
