DR. GEORGE STANLEY DIED IN OMAHA LAST SUNDAY

(veteran)

Dr. George E. Stanley, of the DeSoto area southeast of Blair, died last Sunday, February 18th at the Redman Nursing Home in Omaha. He had been in failing health for a number of weeks. His death followed that of his late wife, Belva, by slightly more than a month.

Dr. Stanley was born at Beatrice, Nebraska, September 16, 1880, and would have been 93 years of age had he lived until his next birthday. He was a retired Veterinarian.

He was married to the former Belva Wild on December 25, 1917, and for many years the couple lived on the farm near the new OPPD Nuclear Power Plant in the DeSoto area. He was a long-time member of the Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. He had been retired since 1951.

He was a graduate of the St. Joseph, Missouri, Veterinary College and for years he practiced in the Blair Herman and Ft. Calhoun areas.

As a young man he served in the United States Army in the Boxer Rebellion and during that period of service he participated in the unique experience of scaling the famed Wall of China.

He is survived by a son, Neil, of Omaha; and by a daughter, Mrs. Dale Legenhausen of Route 2, Blair. There are two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Blair on Wednesday, February 21st. The Rev. James Metzgar conducted the service. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home. Masonic services were conducted at the graveside by Washington Lodge No. 21, A.F. & A.M.

Pall Bearers were Kenneth Bender, Kenneth Michelsen, Floyd Ray, Rolland Smith Jr., Rudolph Frahm and Willard Warrick.
