Emma M. Sohl, 105

Funeral services for Emma M. Sohl, 105, of Fremont, were held Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Greg Hall officiated. Interment was at Memorial Cemetery. Mrs. Sohl died Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Fremont Area Medical Center.

Emma M. Sohl was born May 16, 1896, in the Admah Community of rural Hooper to Peter and Karen (Hansen) Andersen.

She attended Hewitt School by Uehling. She gave piano lessons as a young girl.

On March 1, 1922, she married Arthur Lueninghoener at West Point. He preceded her in death in 1964. She then married Amos Sohl on Dec. 17, 1966, in Fremont.

Mrs. Sohl lived in Shenandoah, Iowa, for one year and then moved to Fremont in 1935. While the family lived at Nickerson in the late 1930’s, she played piano for their church services. They moved back to Fremont in 1941.

She worked at the former C.A. Swanson’s and the former Babendure’s Egg Co., both of Fremont, and at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead. She did baking for several area restaurants, including the former Tally Ho and for area bakeries, including Vienna Bakery. She also cooked for the Eastern Star Masonic Home for Children.

After moving to Nye Pointe, she played the piano for their church services, and played with the Nye Pointe group called “The Music Makers” [Note: Nye Pointe is a nursing home in Fremont, Nebraska].

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Doris and Marvin Kelle of Lincoln, June Timm of Nickerson, Norman and Vernon Olson of York, and Connie and Jim Janssen of Nickerson, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her two husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Ardis Mauer, brothers: Walter, Alfred and an infant brother; three sisters: Mary Petersen, Dena McBroom and Annie Jacobsen; three sons-in-law: Merlin Peterson, Charles Timm and William Mauer; granddaughter, Diane Olson, and grandson, Roland Timm.
