Ruth Ellen (Meyer) Forst, 71

Ruth Ellen (Meyer) Forst, 71, of Omaha, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, in Omaha.

A memorial service will be 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair. Inurnment will be in the Blair Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be prior to services, beginning at 6 p.m.

Ruth was born Nov. 6, 1943, to Betty (Compton) Meyer of Blair. Lt. Ervin Meyer, Ruth’s father, died before she was born while serving with the 25th Army Air Corps.

Raised in Blair by Betty and Roland “Bud” Wilkins, Ruth graduated from Blair High School in 1961 with proficiencies in office administration. She also enjoyed singing in both the church and school choirs. She later attended college and business school to expand her professional skills.

In 1965, Ruth and Tom Croudy gave birth to her only child, Diane.

Ruth worked in a variety of roles before finding purpose and contentment at a leading engineering firm in Omaha. She built a career with the firm that spanned 30-plus years, retiring in 2012.

As a culinary enthusiast, Ruth enjoyed finding great cookware and learning new recipes. She'd say she “read a cookbook like it’s a good novel."

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Diane (John) Gaddis and two grandchildren: Justin and Shelby, all of St. Petersburg, Fla.; her mother, Betty Sieckmeyer of Blair; her sister, Ardeth (Jerry) Scheer of Fremont; stepbrothers: Doug Sieckmeyer of Blair and Mike Sieckmeyer of Phoenix; her nephew, Aaron Scheer; and nieces: April Humphrey and JeriAnne Scheer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ervin Meyer; her brother, Steve Wilkins; and her husband, George Forst, Jr.

The family asks that any memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
