Melvin L. Sorensen, 78, of Arlington, died Wednesday, August 11, 1999, at his home.

Services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 14, 1999 at the Arlington Community Church with Rev. Lynn Martin officiating.

There will be a military graveside service conducted by members of VFW Post # 8332 and American Legion Post # 71 of Arlington at the Arlington Cemetery.

Melvin L. Sorensen was born on January 1, 1921 to Chris and Lovina (Winset) Sorensen in Arlington.

He grew up and lived in the Arlington area all his life.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII from September 22, 1942 to December 1, 1945. He was a sergeant and served in France, Normandy, Ardennes and the Rhineland.

He was also an electrician and plumber and owned Arlington Electric until retirement in January of 1999.

On November 24, 1982, he married Carol Witthuhn in Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; son and daughter-in-law, Ronn and Darlene Sorensen of Lincoln; daughter, Beverly Sorensen Anderson of Lincoln; step-son Gene and his wife, Roxanne Witthuhn of Arlington; step-daughters, Winnie (Mrs. Terry) Brokaw and Patty (Mrs. Jerry) Wesemann, all of Arlington; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Allan “John” and Nadine Sorensen, Paul and Joan Sorensen, all of Arlington; and Leslie and Dorothy Sorensen of Fremont; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Alice and Richard Hayes of Topeka, Kan.; Phyllis and Dean Brunmeier of Omaha; Lila and Al Bartlett of Fremont; and Kay and Jim Johnson of Chico, Calif.; sister-in-law, Marge Sorensen of Arlington; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Merle; one sister, Margaret; and one step-grandson, Randy Brokaw.

Memorials are suggested to the Arlington Swimming Pool Fund or Arlington Volunteer Fire Department.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
