MERLE SORENSEN

Merle E. Sorensen, 65, a farmer from Arlington, died June 11, 1987 at Bishop Clarkson Hospital in Omaha from complications of diabetes.

Sorensen was born February 16, 1922 in rural Arlington, where he lived all of his life.

He was a life member of the VFW Post 8332 of Arlington. Sorensen was an Army veteran of World War II.

On December 3, 1955, he married Marjorie A. Shamburg.

She survives, as does four brothers, Melvin, Allan and Paul Sorensen, all of Arlington; and Leslie Sorensen of Fremont; five sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Lila) Bartlett of Fremont; Mrs. Richard (Alice) Hayes of Topeka, Kansas; Mrs. Dean (Phyllis) Brunmeier; and Mrs. John (Margaret) Vitols, both of Omaha; and Mrs. James (Kay) Johnson of Chico, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Lovina (Winset) Sorensen.

Military graveside services were conducted by members of Arlington’s VFW Post 8332 and American Legion Post 71 at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 15, 1987 at the Arlington Community Church.

Rev. Robert Saunders officiated. Burial followed in the Arlington Cemetery.

Organist was Mrs. Ruby House and soloist was Melvin Misfeldt.

Pallbearers were Ronn Sorensen; Alfred Bartlett; Kenneth Sorensen; Steve and Chris Sorensen; and David Brunmeier.

Honorary pallbearers were Russell, John and Kevin Sorensen; Jerry Bartlett; Dale, Randy and Rod Brunmeier; and Jeff Johnson.

Memorials may be given to the Arlington Rescue Squad.

REckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home in Arlington was in charge of the arrangements.
