| Memorial services for former Blair resident Sandra Appleby and her six-year-old daughter, Tawny Justine, were held September 6 in San Jose, California.
Sandra lost her life while attempting to save her daughter. They both died due to smoke inhalation when their trailer home caught fire around 2:30 a.m. September 2.
Their ashes were sprinkled over Felton, California where Tawny was born in 1979.
Sandra, 38, was a 1964 graduate of Blair High School and was employed as a payroll supervisor at a computer company in California.
They are preceded in death by Sandra’s father, Floyd Appleby.
Survivors include Sandra’s mother, Mrs. Dorothy Thorington of Chatsworth, California, one brother, Greg Appleby of Hawaii and one sister, Susan Appleby of California.
