OBITUARY

Nancy Jane Kelley was born in Ohio March 25, 1848. With her parents she moved in early childhood, to Effingham Co. Ill. and her she grew to maturity.

On Feb. 15, 1867 she was married to Alex Martin and in the fall of the same year she and her husband in company with four other families, moved in covered wagons to Nebraska. They homesteaded land in this county in what is known as the Summers neighborhood and here lived the life of the pioneer.

In 1879 the family moved to Blair where they have since resided. To Mr. and Mrs. Martin nine children were born and of these nine only three survive; Mrs. Cora Badgerow of Blair, Fred A. and Hugh E. Martin, both of Omaha.

While residing on the farm Mr. and Mrs. Martin became members of the Cuming City Baptist church and when they moved to Blair they immediately joined that organization and were life- long consistent members.

The husband passed away on March 24, 1902 but the wife patiently took up the responsibility of the family and kept the children together, educating them and it was her pleasure to see them well settled in life.

For a number of years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Cora Badgerow and it was at her home that she passed away on last Friday, April 19.

The funeral services were held at the Baptist church last Sunday afternoon and interment was made in the Blair cemetery where a host of friends followed the body to its last resting place.

Those who were present from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Petrie, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Petrie and Mrs. F.W. Wickett of Omaha; Mr. and Mrs. G.M. Hoyt, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Claney of Council Bluffs; Mr. and Mrs. P.C. Kelly, Mrs. M. Hagen, Mrs. M. Hogan, Mrs. Charlotte Warner and Mrs. Cyril McManas of Boone, Iowa; Chas.
