Dorsey Kindler, 83

Dorsey John Kindler, 83, of Tekamah, died early on Saturday morning, January 30, 1988, at the Tekamah Senior Citizens Home after a lengthy illness.

He was born on June 25, 1904, at Morse Bluff to John and Etta (Wrede) Kindler.

He received his education in the Columbus and Fremont Public Schools.

Dorsey was united in marriage to Ruth McCann on December 27, 1922, at Fremont.

He was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad during his first years of marriage. The couple moved to Tekamah in 1927 to manage the Council Oak Grocery Store. In 1935, Dorsey opened Kindler Food Store and operated it until the flood his Tekamah in June, 1944. He then moved to the farm and farmed until 1959, when he opened Kindler Produce – an egg, cream and feed store.

He retired in 1972 after his store building was sold and torn down to make room for the new First National Bank building. At that time Dorsey and Ruth opened an antique business, which they operated out of their home together up to the time of his death.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Tekamah.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Kindler of Tekamah; three sons, Dorsey, Jr. and wife Jane of St. Clairsville, Ohio, Dean and wife Beverly of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and Joe and wife Diane of Tekamah; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters: Marguerite Morehouse of Fremont and Evelyn Zieg of Denver, Colorado.

Dorsey was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 2, 1988, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah with Rev. Thomas E. Robson officiating. Interment was in the Tekamah Cemetery.

The family has requested that the memorials be made in Dorsey’s memory to the First Presbyterian Church at Tekamah.

Arrangements were handled by the Hamel & Peck Funeral Home in Tekamah.
