Edna H. Kinell, 90

Washington County native Edna H. Kinell, 90, of Fremont, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Nye Pointe in Fremont.

Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 2438 E. 12th Street, Fremont. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation is from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23, at Ludvigsen Mortuary, and at the church on Friday, one hour prior to services.

Edna H. Meierhenry was born Jan. 6, 1917, north of Arlington, to Ed and Amanda (Hageman) Meierhenry. She attended Arlington High School for two years and graduated from Fremont High School in 1935, then attended Midland Lutheran College.

She worked for the former F.W. Woolworth 5 & 10 store in downtown Fremont during her high school years, then later for attorney J.F. Rohn as his secretary.

She moved to California, where she worked as a nurses aide at Hope Methodist Hospital. In 1941, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the Bureau of Aeronautics of the U.S. Navy.

On Nov. 22, 1942, she married Edgar H. Kinell, who was serving in the Navy, in Washington D.C. The couple lived in various places during his naval career, including Norfolk, Va., Philadelphia, Penn., San Pedro, Calif., Corpus Christi, Texas, Malden, Mass., Westwood, N.J., and Pensacola, Fla.

In 1950, Mrs. Kinell and her son moved to Fremont, while her husband finished his naval tour. He then joined his family in Fremont, where he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring.

The Kinells were very active members of the Calvary United Methodist Church. In Fremont, Mrs. Kinell worked in the registrar’s office at Midland Lutheran College, and later, as the secretary for her church.

She is survived by her son, Del Kinell of Eagle; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar, in 2005; sister, Elaine Odom, and an infant sister.

Memorials are suggested to Calvary United Methodist Church.
