NEVE, EUNICE, 1927 – 2012

Eunice Neve, 85, died on August 4, 2012, in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was born in Hardy, Nebraska on May 2, 1927, the second child of Anker and Lydia Petersen. She was raised on the family farm in Hardy and attended Nuckolls County Schools, graduating from Ruskin High School in 1945. She attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska for two years where she met Ried Neve. They were married in Ruskin on June 2, 1948. She was a loving wife and mother, sharing her faith and values with her children. Eunice was a secretary and bookkeeper in her life as an employee.

She was a pastor’s spouse, and accompanied Ried to parishes in Kennard, Nebraska; Storm Lake, Allison, Council Bluffs and Perry, Iowa; and Auburn, Nebraska, as well as to Greeley, Colorado, where he was the chaplain for the Good Samaritan Home. Eunice was actively involved in each of the parishes and in the communities in which they lived. She and Ried were active in the Cursillo movement.

Eunice and Ried retired in 1990 and moved to Omaha, where Eunice worked as both an employee and a volunteer at Lord of Love Lutheran Church. She was also active as a volunteer at the Danish-American Archives in Blair. In 2009 they moved to St. Joseph, Missouri. Ried died in 2010.

Her survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Juel and Jim Pierce of St. Joseph; Deborah and David McWhirter of Allison, Iowa; Patricia and Jack Tinnel of Kansas City, Missouri; and Susan and Charles Hettinger of Westminster, Colorado; her grandchildren, Sarah Pierce; Matt and Jenny Tinnel; Elizabeth Pierce and Christian Bohnenstengel; Nick and Sarina Tinnel; Ross and Jenny McWhirter; Dana Hettinger and Jeremy Hall; and Lisa and Matthew Willard; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas Pierce, Madelyn and Lily McWhirter, John Jack Tinnel, Jacob Tinnel and Riley Hall; her sisters, Jane Lubkeman of Ankeny, Iowa, Marietta Stenson of Superior, Nebraska, Marilyn Meyer of Omaha, Nebraska and her brother, Lyle Petersen of Blue Hill, Nebraska.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and three infant grandsons.

SERVICES 11am Wednesday at First Lutheran Church in St, Joseph, with burial at a later date in Ruskin, Nebraska. VISITATION will begin after 12 noon Tuesday at Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, where the family will receive friends 6-8pm Tuesday evening. Memorials are requested to be sent to the Danish-American Archives in Blair, Nebraska and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
