. Gloria Jean “Jeanie” Bock, 62

. Gloria Jean “Jeanie” Bock, 62, of Blair died peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, while being comforted by her husband at Methodist Hospital in Omaha.

. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 6, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair with a luncheon following. Visitation will be Thursday with family receiving visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

. Jeanie was born in Blair on June 1, 1952, and was the middle child of Henry T. “Sonny” and Ruthene (Hugelman) Smith.

. She was married to Don Bock of Benkleman on Oct. 21, 1972, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blair.

. Jeanie excelled at her job of full-time wife and mother. She had a kind and genuine smile, a gentle and loving heart and was loved by all who crossed paths with her. She discovered in 1992 that she had the soul of a fighter when she was diagnosed with cancer. She fought hard and won her first battle with it and enjoyed 17 years of remission by spending it with her family and friends, who she loved deeply. Her daughters often said, “Mom is my hero!”

. Jeanie enjoyed creating things with her hands, such as cross-stitching or paper crafting, but her favorite hobby was tole painting, especially anything with a snowman.

. She seldom raised her voice, except for when the Nebraska Huskers football team was on TV.

. She dreamed for years of going to Alaska, and was finally able to take her dream trip in 2012 with her husband and family friends.

. When Jeanie was diagnosed with cancer a second time in 2009, she showed only courage as she went toe-to-toe with it. She never became hardened, angry, or bitter with her illness. Instead she used her experience to inspire courage in other cancer patients by participating actively on the breastcancer.org message boards, or by talking on the phone to newly diagnosed patients. Helping others gave her strength, which in turn inspired everyone who knew her to be braver and stronger themselves.

. On Feb. 28, 2015, despite a spirit that wanted to continue fighting, her body no longer had the strength. She was welcomed into heaven by her mother, Ruthene (Hugelman) Smith, and father- and mother-in-law Mark and Henrietta “Marie” (Dinges) Bock.

. She is survived and dearly missed by her husband, Don Bock of Blair: daughter Jessica Bock of Blair and daughter Jennifer (Bock) Dein and son-in-law Jason Dein of Omaha; father Henry T. “Sonny” Smith of Blair; sister and brother-in-law Diana (Smith) and Glenn Nelsen of Blair; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lee and Laura (Nebregich) Smith of Blair and Judson and Ramona (Larson) Bock of Honey Creek, Iowa.

. Jeanie’s family thanks Dr. James R. Commers and the wonderful Hematology & Oncology Consultants staff at Immanuel Hospital for the care that they provided during her many years as a patient. Thank you also to the staffs at Methodist Hospital (6th Floor South) and at Blair Memorial Community Hospital for all that they did for Jeanie. Words cannot express enough the family’s appreciation for your kindness and your heartfelt care.

. Memorials may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
