LEROY J. KING, 76

Leroy J. King of Tekamah died June 23, 1998, at the Tekamah Health & Rehab Center.

Services were Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah with the Rev. Judith Clark Wharton officiating. Donna Palmer was the organist and Carol Bacon was the vocalist.

Pallbearers were Gene Rollins, Arthur Reil, Ward Odell, Tom Marshall, Bob Shumake and Gerald Shumake. Burial was in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Leroy Joseph King was born April 9, 1922, in Herman to Joseph S. and Esther F. (Moffitt) King. He attended the Evergreen and Homestead Schools near Tekamah.

On Dec. 22, 1952, he married Eva Petersen. They made their home in the Lake Quinnebaugh Township until 1959 when they moved to a home west of Tekamah. They had two daughters.

Mrs. King died on Aug. 24, 1990.

On July 9, 1993, he married Janet Stevens at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah.

He farmed and was an Allis Chalmers dealer in Tekamah. He enjoyed gardening, playing his guitar and singing.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tekamah.

He is survived by his wife, Janet of Tekamah; two daughters and sons-in-law, JoJen and Steve Shamburg of Tekamah and Victoria and Lon Kuhlman of Herman; four grandchildren, Scott and Andrea Shamburg and Maggie and Rebecca Kuhlmann; a step-son, Scott Stevens of Omaha; one brother, Verling “Bud” King of Tekamah; five sisters, Doris Kjelgaard, Madeline Hardy and Joan Maxwell, all of Tekamah; Betty Buddecke of Grand Island and Mary Syverson of Homosassa, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Eva; a grandson, Steven Shamburg; and one brother, Kenneth “Doc” King.

Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church and the Tekamah Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.
