Leonard F. Sperling, 96

Leonard F. Sperling, 96, of Fremont, formerly of Arlington, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Nye Legacy Health and Rehab in Fremont.

Funeral services were Friday, March 6, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with the Rev. Rick Kanoy officiating. Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery at Arlington.

Leonard was born Aug. 16, 1918, near Arlington to Albert and Alma (Schormann) Sperling.

Leonard grew up on the Sperling family farm southeast of Arlington. He farmed with his father.

Leonard married Laurina Hilgenkamp on Aug. 15, 1943.

They farmed the home place and lived there until 1981, when they retired and moved to an acreage north of Arlington. They moved to Fremont in 2008.

He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Fremont. He and Laurina were active members of the Grand Generation at Good Shepherd. They also enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the United States and square dancing with the Spinning Wheels Club.

He is survived by son, Ralph (Heike) Sperling of El Paso, Texas; daughters: Rita (Warren) Thompson of Atwood, Colo., Carol Anderson of Corning, Iowa, and Connie (Paul) Luther of Grand Island; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Laurina in 2013; brothers: Edgar and Elmer Sperling; sister Linda Brinkman; sisters: Hilda and Nadine Sperling in childhood; sons-in-law: Donald Lambrecht, Gary Anderson and Gale Ransdell; and special nephew Donnie Sperling.

He was blessed to have wonderful care at Nye Square and Nye Legacy.
