Funeral Services for Simon Korshoj At United Methodist Church Wednesday

Funeral services for Simon Korshoj, long-time Blair contractor, will be held Wednesday afternoon, June 15, at the United Methodist Church in Blair. The time will be 2:00 p.m. Mr. Korshoj had died in Omaha Friday, June 10th.

The deceased was born January 2, 1906 in Vildberg, Denmark. He immigrated to the United States when he was 20 years old, coming to Blair where he worked in the construction business. Several years later he launched the Korshoj Construction Company which grew into a far-flung business handling many large construction projects.

He married Virginia Blankenbeckler in 1934 at Tekamah. The couple had no children.

Mr. Korshoj had many honors bestowed upon him during his years in the construction business. He was listed in the “Who’s Who” in the Midwest for Commerce and Industry; Personalities of the West and Midwest; World “Who’s Who”; Dictionary of International biographies; National Social Directory; and “Danes in Foreign Countries”.

Mr. Korshoj was the only person to be elected to two terms as President of Nebraska Building Chapter of the Association of General Contractors of America.

He was a life director of the National Association of General Contractors of America and served on many national committees plus serving as National Chairman on many of those committees.

Mr. Korshoj was interested and active in Boy Scouts of America, active in the Masonic Lodge and was a 32 degree Mason. He was member of the Blair Rotary Club and was founder and sole owner of the Korshoj Construction Company, one of the leading construction firms in the Midwest. It has been requested that memorials be directed to the Boy Scouts of America.

The Rev. Gordon L. Patterson, pastor of the Blair United Methodist church, will conduct the services Wednesday afternoon. Dr. C. C. Madsen will deliver the Memorial Message.

Burial will be made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Bendorf Funeral Home.

Mr. Korshoj is survived by his wife, Virginia, by a brother, Chris Korshoj, of Herman and four brothers who live in Denmark. They are Erik, Hans, Jacob and Knud, all of Denmark.

In addition, there are 15 nephews and 12 nieces.

Active pallbearers will be Earl Korshoj of Fremont; Frank Korshoj, of Herman; Roger Korshoj, of Omaha; Raymond Korshoj, of Oakland, Nebraska; Gene Megrue, of Blair and Roger Ward, of Blair.

Honorary pallbearers will be: John Beall, E. L. (Del) Chapin, Dr. D. R. Ehlers, Dr. L. I. Grace, James A. Herbert, Dr. C. D. Howard, Leonard Jackson, Harry A. Koch, Jr., Dean G. Kratz, Donald P. Lay, Earl R. Mezoff, Louis Murdoch, Joe Pinneo, Clark O’Hanlon, Darroll Olson, Alfred O. Sick, Wayne Steinbaugh, Howard Thompson, Harold G. Wright.
