On May 25, 1934, he married Francine Eriksen in Beatrice. He farmed in Washington County until early in 1952, when he moved his family to Montana.

He leased and farmed the Wylie and Butler ranches from the Flying D until 1954, when he moved to Bozeman.

He was then employed by the Animal Science Department at Montana State University as beef herdsman, until his retirement in 1975.

He loved to hunt and fish, and in later years, traveled to see relatives and friends. He especially enjoyed the Seattle area, and would stay for extended periods with his son and daughter-in-law.

He is survived by his wife, Francine; two sons and daughters-in-law, Russell W. and Libby Sylvis of Bozeman, Mont., Charles A. and Joanne Sylvis of Redmond, Wash.; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon R. and Edgar Icenoggle of Belgrade, Mont.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Charles Addison, Jr., Russell Bracken, Robert John, Bernard Brice and Aubert Clark Sylvis.
