ROY SPANTON, 82, DIED AT HOSPITAL SUNDAY, JUNE 15TH

Roy E. Spanton, long-time Blair resident, died last Sunday, June 15th at Memorial Community Hospital. He was 82 years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Spanton have lived at 1056 Park Street for many years.

He was a former City Councilman from Ward One and for many years was Chief of Police of the City of Blair. In addition, he has carried on an active interest in community affairs.

Upon retirement from the work as Chief of Police, he took over the management of the Blair Apartments at Tenth and Nebraska streets and he continued in that position until 1964 when he retired from all active work.

He was born at Bellevue, Nebraska December 23rd, 1892.

He is survived by his wife, whose maiden name was Zella Murphy and by two sons, Ray Spanton of Omaha and Paul Spanton of Minneapolis.

In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by four brothers and five sisters. There are two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The brothers are Bert Spanton of Blair; Dwaine Spanton of Gravois Mills, Missouri; Verne Spanton and Clyde Spanton, both of Idaho.

The sisters are Zelma Dennis of Salem, Oregon; Gail Wickham of Seattle, Oregon; Grace Spanton of Portland, Oregon; Veora Williams of Seattle, Washington; and Vinta Shaw of Arkansas.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 18th at the Campbell Mortuary. The Rev. Ray Phelps of the First Christian Church conducted the service. Burial was made in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Campbell Mortuary.

Pallbearers were Raymond Holbrock, Emmett Johnson, Paul Johnson, Douglas Schmid, Edward Bartling, Fred Murphy and Ray Rosenbaum.
