CYNTHIA L. ARNOLD, 54

Blair native Cynthia L. Arnold, 54, of Tekamah, died March 16, 2004, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair. Funeral services were Friday, March 19, at First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah. Interment was in the Tekamah Cemetery.

Cynthia L. Arnold was born June 14, 1949, in Blair to Edwin H. and Ramona M. (Gammel) Michels. She was a lifelong resident of the Tekamah area. She attended 6-R School and entered Tekamah schools in the seventh grade. She graduated from Tekamah-Herman High School in 1967, and attended Dana College in Blair for one year.

On June 13, 1971, she married David A. Arnold at the United Methodist Church in Craig. During their 32 years of marriage, they raised three children.

Mrs. Arnold was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She stayed at home with her children until 1984, when she became a nurse’s aide. She was employed at Crowell Memorial Home in Blair until 1994, and then at the Tekamah Nursing Home until 2001. Due to worsening health, she was unable to continue working, and spent most of her time at her home for the past three years.

Beginning in 1994 until early in 2004, she took in more than 20 foster children. All of them were special to her, whether they were in her home for a few hours or for a few years. She loved each as her own. She always put others first and would make sure everyone else was taken care of before taking care of herself.

She is also remembered for her love of animals, especially Siamese cats. She would always put out food and milk on her front porch for any neighborhood cats, and could often be found sleeping in her chair with at least two to three different animals.

She was known as “Merna” to her grandson, Cody. They would always share an orange or a bowl of grapes every night after supper.

She is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Christina and Stefanie; son, Michael and one grandchild, all of Tekamah; a cousin and special Margie Crogan of Blair, and many other cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah was in charge of arrangements.
