Amelia Anderson was born in Landskrona, Province of Skona, Sweden, on February 27, 1867, and, with her father, came to America in the year 1882. After a short visit in Illinois, they settled near Kennard, Nebraska, and she has been a resident of Washington County ever since.

She was married on March 7, 1889, to Peter C. Sorensen and to this union were born ten children, eight boys and two girls, namely: Soren, Nels , Alma, Albert, Clarence, Ole, May, Andrew, Frank and Lester, all of whom together with the husband survive, as do also three brothers and one sister, namely: Andrew N. Sherman, Ole E. and Oliva Anderson.

Mrs. Sorensen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Sweden, and her whole life was thoroughly in keeping with the principles of her faith and was exemplary in every sense of the word. She died March 11, 1913, at her home west of Kennard where, surrounded by her family, she bore testimony of the peace which attended her, saying “Jesus is Calling Me.”

The funeral services were held in Grace Methodist Episcopal church, Kennard, and were conducted by the Rev. Dr. Anderson, pastor of the Danish Lutheran church, who spoke in Danish, and the Rev. Dr. Hiller, pastor of Grace church, who spoke in English. Interment was at the Kennard cemetery.
