Marie Elizabeth Ruwe Kerkhoff

Mrs. Herman Kerkhoff, fifty-nine years of age, died at her home some time Saturday night or Sunday morning. She was found dead in bed by her husband when he awakened on Sunday morning. Her death was sudden and a shock to the family for she had been in seemingly good health Saturday and had not complained of any illness up to the time of retiring Saturday night. Death was due to heart trouble, with which she had been troubled at intervals for some time. Saturday afternoon she felt so well that she entertained a party of friends at her home all afternoon. Marie Elizabeth Ruwe was born in Quincy, Illinois on September 24, 1865, the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. August Ruwe. In 1872 the family moved to Washington County, where Miss Ruwe was reared and received her education in the vicinity of Fontanelle. Thirty-three years ago she was united in marriage to Herman Kerkhoff and they settled on a farm in Washington county, where they have lived since. Surviving are her husband and two children, Mrs. Ernest Meier and August Kerkhoff; one brother, August Ruwe, Lincoln and two sisters, Mrs. Lena Loosing and Mrs. Anna Mueller, both of Fremont; five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at the home at one o’clock Tuesday afternoon and two o’clock at the Fontanelle church, Rev. F.C. Schuldt officiating. Interment was made in the Fontanelle cemetery.
