Braniff Crash Kills Two From This County Area

Mrs. Robert Kuhr and Son Were Former County Residents

A former Washington County woman and her five year old son were among those who died in a crash of a Braniff airlines jetliner late last Saturday evening near Falls City, Nebraska. She was 35-year-old Mrs. Robert Kuhr and son Mitchell.

Mrs. Kuhr was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Whipperman, who live north of Arlington.

Mitchell was a grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kuhr who live west of Blair.

Mrs. Kuhr, the former Ruth Whipperman, attended school in Arlington and was well known in that part of the county.

Mrs. Kuhr is survived by her husband, Robert Kuhr and an 18-month-old daughter. The family resided at 4038 Newport Avenue in Omaha. Robert is a Cargo Agent for the Braniff Airline.

Mrs. Kuhr and her son had taken a one day trip to Kansas City for shopping and a visit to the Kansas City Zoo.

Robert’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Kuhr, who farm in the Rose Hill school district. Robert and his family farmed in the same area for a number of years before he took the position with Braniff.

Government investigators are still studying the wreckage of the plane for the cause of the tragedy. It is now strongly felt that a violent weather turbulence perhaps caused the wreck.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday at the First Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. in Blair.

The crash took 42 lives, a number of the passengers living in the Omaha area.
