ELIZABETH STAPLES, LONGTIME TEACHER, DIED LAST SUNDAY

Mrs. Elizabeth Staples, a retired teacher who was associated with the Blair School System for many years, died Sunday at Blair Memorial Community Hospital. She had been taken to the hospital Saturday afternoon by the Blair Rescue Squad. Mrs. Staples lived at Parkside apartments on south Sixteenth street.

Mrs. Staples was a native of Herman, Nebraska, having been born there on November 28th, 1900. Her husband, Albert Logan Staples, died in 1929.

Mrs. Staples was a teacher in the Blair schools for 14 years, from 1952 until 1966. Prior to those dates, however, she had taught in rural schools for 13 years and later in an elementary school for 5 years.

She is survived by a son and a daughter and five grandchildren. The daughter is Mrs. Byron Bergman (Mary Helen) of Omaha and the son is Donald Staples of Bloomfield, Iowa.

A sister, Mrs. Margaret Ball resides at Pender, Nebraska. There are four brothers, Mark McConnaha of Blair; Roy and Richard McConnaha of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas; and Robert McConnaha of Ontario, Oregon.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the First United Methodist Church in Blair, the Rev. Gordon Patterson conducted the service. Burial was made in the Tekamah, Nebraska cemetery under the direction of the Bendorf Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were all former students of Mrs. Staples. They were Cameron Jackson, Jack Eriksen, Dwain Jordan, Richard Thompson, Ted Von Seggern and Howard Larsen.
