Mrs. John Nissen, 73 Buried at Kennard

Widow of Pioneer Merchant Died in Kansas

News of the death Friday morning of Mrs. John Nissen 69, at Lawrence, Kansas, Friday morning, was received here later in the day. Mrs. Nissen was a former resident of Kennard and had scores of friends and acquaintances in this part of the county.

Mrs. Nissen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1863, and came to the United States while a young girl. She was married in 1885 and came to Kennard about 1890, where she resided about 4 years. When her health became poor, a few years ago, she went to Kansas to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Nelle Yedecke.

Mrs. Nissen was always loved and respected by everyone while she lived in Kennard, when her husband and son-in-law, Adolph Kroigaard, operated a general merchandise store there.

The husband and a daughter, Laura, preceded her in death. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Yedecke and Mrs. Adolph Kroigaard of New York City, and three grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Berry of Kennard, Mrs. J. C. Christian and Miss Ellen Leesburg, both of California, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Kennard Methodist church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 7. The Rev. W. C. George of Blair, assisted by Rev. Mr. Booher of Kennard, had charge of the services. A male quartette, Messrs. Leonard Miller, George Hedelund, Lester Kronberg and Earl Jenkins, with Mrs. Jenkins at the piano, sang several beautiful songs. Pallbearers were Messrs. T. H. Wright of Blair, E. O. Fairchild, H. C. Blaco, Elmer Miller, Homer Ward and Chas. Berry. Interment was made in the family plot in the Kennard cemetery.

Pioneer Kennard Woman Dead

Services for Ms. John Nissen who died Thursday at Lawrence, Kan., were held at the Kennard Methodist church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with Rev. W. C. George of Blair, assisted by Rev. Mr. Booher of Kennard in charge. A male quartet, George Hedelund, Leonard Miller, Earl Jenkins and Lester Kronberg with Mrs. Earl Jenkins at the piano, sang several songs during the service. Pallbearers were Hugh Wright of Blair, E. M. Miller, H. E. Ward, H. C. Blaco, E. O. Fairchild and Charles Berry. Burial was made in the Kennard cemetery by the side of the husband and daughter, Laura.

Mrs. Nissen was a pioneer Kennard woman. Her husband, John Nissen, for years ran a general mercantile business in Kennard where the family was held in high esteem.

Note: Katherine is buried in Blk 2 Lot 24 Sp 3 in the Kennard Cemetery.
