JOHN D. ARNOLD, 75

Funeral services for John D. Arnold, 75, of Fort Calhoun, were held Dec. 22, 2000, at Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home in Fort Calhoun. Interment was at the Fort Calhoun Cemetery. Mr. Arnold died on Tuesday, December 19, 2000, at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha.

John David Arnold was born March 25, 1925 in Mercier, Kan., to John and Ethel Arnold.

He lived for a time in Sabetha, Kan., and then moved to Nebraska. On Feb. 5, 1972, he married Ember Siemer in Blair.

His hobbies included fishing, sharpening chain saws, hunting, reading and spending time with his family, and his Huskers. He will most be remembered for the stories that he told, his ruddy red cheeks and hearty laugh, patriotism, and love of family and friends.

Mr. Arnold was a member of the VFW, 40 & 8, and Fort Calhoun American Legion Post #348.

He is survived by his wife, Ember; stepchildren, Shirley Sum and Gary and Lisa Sadil, all of Omaha, Linda and Steve Thomsen of Oregon, and Tracy and Wes Prettyman of Blair, a brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Peggy Arnold of Kansas, and a sister-in-law, Joyce Arnold, 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers, Loy Arnold and Phil Arnold.

Memorials are suggested to the Fort Calhoun Rescue Squad.

Sievers-Sprick Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
