Wendell D. Klanderud, 85

Wendell D. Klanderud, 85, of Blair, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 2009, at Memorial Community Hospital in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec, 11, at First Lutheran Church with burial in the Blair Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Campbell-Aman Funeral Home, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Wendell D. Klanderud was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Obert. He joined the United States Army in 1945 and served as a member of Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s Honor Guard.

In 1945, he married Barbara B. Nelson. They made their home in Blair, where he worked for the United States Postal Service until he retired. Mr. Klanderud spent his last years at Shepherd’s Village Assisted Living.

He was a member of the VFW Honor Guard, the American Legion, Blair Volunteer Fire Department, and was a charter member of the Blair Rescue Squad.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara, of Blair; daughter and son-in-law, Konda and Timothy Nietfeld of Blair; sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Inese Klanderud of Blair, Barry and Kelli Klanderud of Omaha, and Brent and Brenda Klanderud of Omaha; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Eunice Heimes of Hartington, Phyllis and Lee Fideline of Ralston; and sister-in-law, Betty Klanderud of Hartington.

He was preceded in death by a son, Bruce W. Klanderud, and a brother, Kenneth Klanderud.

Memorials are suggested to Good Shepherd Assisted Living Center, 2290 Wright Street, Blair, NE 68008.
