Peter Klindt Laid to Rest

OLD SETTLER OF FT. CALHOUN DIED LAST FRIDAY

Peter Klindt, one of the sturdy old settlers of Fort Calhoun, died last Friday, December 31. He had lived on his farm near the little city of Fort Calhoun since 1866, forty-five years, until four years ago when he rented the farm and moved to Calhoun.

Peter Klindt was born in Probster, Germany, Dec. 2, 1831, came to Davenport, Iowa in 1854 where he remained for 8 years. The following four years he spent in Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Utah and other parts of the west, making four trips across the plains, freighting for different firms. In 1866 he came to Nebraska where in August of same years he was married to Catherine Arp. Three children were born to this union, Emma, dying when four years old, Henry at the age of 23 and Dora, who, with his widow, survives him. For 45 years he lived on his farm south of Ft. Calhoun moving to his present home four years ago.

December 31, 1915, reaching the age of 84 years 29 days. Funeral services from his home in Calhoun at 2:00 o’clock Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. W. Lewis, of Blair. A large number of his old friends and admirers viewed his remains and followed him to his last resting place.
