W. RUSSELL STAVELY DIED TUES., JULY 23

W. Russell Stavely, a former Blair man who now lives in Omaha, died suddenly at an Omaha hospital Tuesday evening. He had undergone surgery several days prior to his death and was considered to be recovering. He suffered a coronary attack.

Mr. Stavely has been connected with and was interested in a number of firms dealing with river stabilization work. He first came to Blair about 1934 to implement some of the Woods Bros. projects. Woods Bros. was an engineering and promotional firm headquartering in Lincoln and one of the first organizations to attempt control of the Missouri River.

For a time Mr. Stavely was connected with Morrison, Glascock and Connor, river construction engineers of Kansas City.

Later in 1946 he formed his own company which was known as Connor & Stavely. More recently he has had interests in the Costa Company and the Ft. Calhoun Stone Company. All of these firms deal in river control work. The stone company operates a quarry on the banks of the Missouri River on the Rohwer estate farm and most of the stone goes into river control projects.

Mr. Stavely is survived by his wife Mary, and by a daughter, Patricia, now Mrs. Jess Wright, of Blair.

Mr. and Mrs. Stavely moved to Omaha about ten years ago and built a new home in the Hummel Park addition at 9665 North 30th street. The home overlooks - - (The article is cut off here.)
