Mickey “Mick” Leroy Harper, 59

Mickey “Mick” Leroy Harper, 59, died in his home in Missouri Valley, Iowa on Sunday, March 15, 2015.

A memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday, March 21, at the Methodist Church in Missouri Valley. Inurnment will be in the Branson Cemetery, Loveland, Iowa. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 20, at the church.

Mick was born Dec. 6, 1955, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Dwight Harper and Maxine Campbell. He grew up in Missouri Valley with his six siblings.

In 1974, he married his first wife, Bernadine, and they had three children: Bob, Kyle and Tonia. In 1990, he married his second wife, Cathy, and they had two children: Thad and Mickayla.

Mick loved to hunt, fish and go camping with family and friends. He had served on the Missouri Valley Fire Department. He was a member of the Missouri Valley Eagles Club.

He loved his children and adored his nine grandchildren: Taylor, Jenna, Zach, Jessie, Morgan, Ellie, Jade, Aiden and Avery. He spent most of his time socializing with friends and family. He was a jack of all trades and was currently working as a farm hand.

He is survived by his siblings: Rick Harper and Theresa Hawkins of Blair, Dwight Harper and wife Sheila of Honey Creek, Iowa, Chris Richer and husband Doug of Missouri Valley, Connie Harper and “Buck” Buckner of Malvern, Iowa, Virginia Richardson of Missouri Valley, and Tina Harper of Missouri Valley; children: Bob Harper and wife Jamie of Blair, Kyle Harper and wife Janice of Blair, Tonia Harper and Troy Hekter of Wisner, Thad Harper and Jessica Earlbacher of Harlan, Iowa, and Mickayla Harper of Missouri Valley; grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Dwight Harper Sr., grandparents: Lloyd and Ella Campbell and Albert and Lily Harper; and brother-in-law Ward Richardson.

Hennessey Funeral Home in Missouri Valley, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
