NELS SWANSON OF KENNARD PASSES

Nels Swanson, farmer in the Kennard vicinity for many years, passed away Monday of this week, a victim of heart trouble following an illness of approximately ten years. He was well known in Washington county as an active farmer and for a number of years had lived a mile west of Kennard.

The deceased was born in Sweden October 9, 1870, coming to America in 1890, when twenty years of age. At the time of his death, he was nearly seventy years of age.

In 1896 he was married to Miss Johanna Olson and shortly after established himself as a farmer in the Kennard vicinity. To this union nine children were born, all of whom survive. They are as follows: Harry Swanson, of Washington, Nebraska; Elmer, Carl, Leonard and Freddie, of Thurston, Nebraska; Hilma, who is now Mrs. John Sanders, of Walthill, Nebraska; Ellen, who is Mrs. George Isham, of Elkhorn, Nebraska; and Albert and Alma who remain at home. Mrs. Swanson also survives her husband. There are twelve grandchildren.

For some time the home farm west of Kennard has been operated by Albert who will continue to do so. Mrs. Swanson will remain with the son and daughter on the home place.

Funeral services are being held this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:30 o'clock p.m. from the home and at 2:00 o'clock p.m. at the Lutheran church of Kennard with Rev. P.C. Jensen in charge.

The six sons will be pallbearers and interment is being made in the Kennard cemetery.

FARMER THERE SINCE 1893 DIES; LUTHERAN SERVICES THIS AFTERNOON

In failing health five years, unable to work the past two, Nels Swanson, 69, died Monday night at Hastings. For nearly 47 years Mr. Swanson had farmed in the Kennard vicinity, where he still maintained his home.

Funeral services are being held at 2 p.m. today at the Kennard Lutheran church, the Rev. P.C. Jensen, pastor, in charge. Interment will follow in Blair cemetery.

Mr. Swanson was born in Sweden November 9, 1870 and came to the United States in 1893, moving directly to the Kennard vicinity, his home since. He was married in Omaha to Johanna Olson.

Surviving Mr. Swanson are his wife, Johanna; six sons, Albert Swanson, at home, Leonard, Elmer and Carl Swanson, all of Thurston, Freddie of Pender, and Harry of Washington; and three daughters, Miss Alma Swanson, at home, Mrs. Joh Sanders of Walthill and Mrs. George Isham of Elkhorn. There are 12 grandchildren.
