MRS. MARX STEFFEN

Mrs. Marx Steffen, with her husband and daughter, came from Holstein in Germany to Omaha and Ft. Calhoun in 1881 and for a couple of years kept the City hotel, one of the cleanest, neatest hostelries ever kept in the state. They bought two blocks south of Hans Schwager’s, where her husband died. For years her flower garden was one of the show places of the city. She was born April 25, 1832, and was buried beside her husband March 27, 1911, Rev. E. T. Otto, Lutheran minister from Omaha, officiating. The choir were Mrs. Charles Rathjen, Mrs. Peter Holst, Mrs. Joe Bolln and Miss Lena Schwager. Pallbearers -- Tim Ohrt, Deidleif Teitzen, John Wreidt, John Moller, John Hindrichsen and William Haas. The body was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Henry Hagadorn, and husband and others. Mrs. Hagadorn and family desire us to thank the pallbearers, the choir and all others who so kindly assisted them in their sorrow and bereavement. There were great banks of calla lilies and other beautiful flowers. W. H. Woods
