Services for Darlene Maxine Steenbock, age 70 of Blair, who died February 13, 1992 at Immanuel Medical Center were Monday, February 17 at the First Lutheran Church in Blair. Military graveside services were held in the Neola, Iowa Cemetery.

Darlene Orme Steenbock was born June 16, 1921 in Neola, Iowa to Elbert and Hilda Barrier Orme. She grew up in Neola and graduated from Neola High School. She was a member of the Neola girls basketball team that competed at the State Tournament in 1938.

She earned a nursing degree from Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was a World War II veteran, serving as an Army nurse in the South Pacific. After the war, she worked at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska.

She married Martin D. Steenbock in Lincoln on October 25, 1947. In may of 1967 they moved to Blair, NE, where she resided at the time of her death.

She worked for the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair for 19 years, serving as the head nurse on the night shift. She retired in December of 1986. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Washington County Nurses Association, Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary and American Legion.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Martin D. of Blair; son, Martin E. of Blair; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Gary Bucy of Tekamah, Nebraska, Denise and Davin Dickerson of Neola, Iowa; three grandchildren, Justine Bucy, Matthew and Shannon Dickerson; one brother, Ruel Orme of Neola; two sisters Sally Dirks of Avoca, Iowa and Beulah Witt of Manning, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing (Scholarship) in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
