Wayne Steinbaugh, 92 of Blair, died Tuesday, July 23, 2002 at Crowell Home in Blair.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be in the Blair Cemetery.

Wayne Steinbaugh was born July 3, 1910 in Albion to Carl and Lillie (Gilster) Steinbaugh. He graduated from Oakland High School. He attended the University of Nebraska for one year, where he was a member of the freshmen track team, and then attended Boyles Business College in Omaha for two years.

On June 4, 1933, he married Gladys Pierson. At that time, they moved to Blair and purchased the cleaning establishment, which he operated until he entered the United States Army during World War II.

When he was discharged from the service, he returned to the Blair store, which he later sold. He then purchased the J. L. Pounds Clothing business. He sold the clothing business and worked as a traveling salesman for two years, at which time he entered the appliance business.

For the last 30 years, he owned and operated Steinbaugh Boats and Motors. Mr. Steinbaugh was a 50-year member of the Blair Chamber of Commerce, where he served on the board of directors and was chairman of the retail merchants.

He was president of the Blair Rod & Gun Club; commander of the American Legion; member of 40 et 8; organized three ramps for entrance onto the Missouri river; member of the Blair Fraternal Order of Eagles; and was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. He loved to hunt, fish, bowl, shoot blue rocks, play pool and cards, and was known for throwing his hat.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Roger Steinbaugh of Blair, and Rex and Beverly Steinbaugh of Omaha; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister and brother-in-law, Fern and Richard Decker of Burr Ridge, Ill.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
