Bernard A. Stern, 81 of Pleasant Dale, died July 29, 2001 in Lincoln.

Funeral services were Aug. 3 at Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete, with Pastor Rod Lyon officiating. Interment was at Pleasant Dale Cemetery. Military honors were provided by Pleasant Dale Legion Post No. 354.

Bernard A. Stern was born Dec. 29, 1919 in Seward County to Arthur and Jennette (Boggs) Stern. He graduated from Pleasant Dale High School in 1937.

On June 20, 1947, he married Alma Daniel in Lincoln. The couple lived at rural Pleasant Dale.

Mr. Stern was a farmer and assistant manager at Farmers Coop in Pleasant Dale. From 1942 to 1946, he served in the Army in France, Belgium and Germany, and was discharged as a sergeant.

He was a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Butch Keller and a son, Bruce Stern, all of Pleasant Dale; two grandchildren and their spouses; four great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Lyle and Iona Stern of Blair; sisters and brother-in-law, Letty and Harold Mundt, and Bonnie Bargman, all of Crete; Dorothy Carver of Westminster, Colo.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma; brother, Ray; and sister, Violet.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Kuncl Funeral Home in Crete was in charge of arrangements.
