Alvin L. Bauer, 97

Former Blair resident Alvin L. Bauer, 97, of Fremont, died Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the Arbor Manor in Fremont.

Services were Monday, May 18, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Interment was at Fremont’s Ridge Cemetery.

Alvin L. Bauer was born May 25, 1911, in Fay, Okla., to George and Lizzie (Moser) Bauer. He grew up in Oklahoma, and moved to Lincoln. He later moved to Villisca, Iowa, where he farmed.

On Nov. 26, 1932, he married Minnie B. Barker at Maryville, Mo. The couple raised their family in Villisca.

Mr. Bauer moved to Wahoo, where he worked at the Nebraska Ordnance Plant at Mead during World War II. He later moved to Valley, where he worked at a cattle feeding operation (the site of the present-day Pines Golf Course). In 1953, they moved to Blair, where he worked for Kelly Ryan Equipment Company. The couple built a home in Blair and lived here until Mrs. Bauer’s death in 2000. Mr. Bauer moved to Fremont in 2001 to live with his son and daughter-in-law.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Blair.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Betty Bauer of Fremont; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Paul Thanasides of Tampa, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Lacox of Villisca.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Norman Bauer; daughter, Barbara Ellis; two brothers, Edward and Paul Bauer; and one grandchild.

Memorials are suggested to the Church of the Nazarene in Fremont.

Moser Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
