Edgar H. Sperling

Edgar H. Sperling, 84, of Arlington, died Friday in Mesa, Arizona, where he had been living for the winter.

Sperling was born June 2, 1902, in Ashton. He moved to Arlington in 1910 and was a turkey rancher and processor. He retired in 1978. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Arlington.

Sperling married Lilly Scheer on August 12, 1928. She died May 16, 1955. He then married Clara Sommers Belz June 12, 1960 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Donnie of Arlington and Milo of Seward; two daughters, Mrs. B.M. (Nancy) Drum of League City, Texas, and Mrs. Ray (Ardes) Vance of Arvada, Colorado; a stepson, Howard Belz of Anaheim, California; two brothers, Elmer and Leonard Sperling, both of Arlington; a sister, Mrs. John (Linda) Brinkmann of Fremont; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Alma (Schormann) Sperling; his first wife, Lilly, and a sister, Nadine.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Arlington. The Rev. Dennis Maaske officiated. Pallbearers were Philip, Bryan and Scott Drum; Brent, Darin and Dana Sperling. Organist and choir director will be Dennis Godeman.

Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery. A memorial has been established to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.

Funeral Services 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 1987, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Arlington, Nebraska. Pastor Dennis Maaske officiating. Organist and Choir Director Mr. Dennis Godeman. The Choir will sing: “The Lord is My Shepherd”, “The Lord Bless You and Keep You”. The funeral congregation will sing Hymn #139 “Jesus Lives! The Victory’s Won”; Hymn #422 “What God Ordains is Always Good”. Pallbearers Philip Drum, Bryan Drum, Scott Drum, Brent Sperling, Darin Sperling, Dana Sperling. Interment St. Paul’s Cemetery, Arlington, Nebraska. Arrangements Reckmeyer-Moser Funeral Home, Arlington, Nebraska.

Edgar Henry Sperling, the son of Albert and Alma (Schormann) Sperling, was born June 2, 1902 at Ashton, Nebraska. He moved to Arlington in 1910 from Ashton and had lived there since. Edgar was a turkey rancher and processor until retiring in 1978. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Arlington. He married Lilly Scheer on August 12, 1928. She died May 16, 1955. Edgar passed from this life on Friday, April 24, 1987 in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 84 years, 10 months and 22 days. Survivors include his wife, Clara; two sons, Donnie Sperling of Arlington and Milo Sperling on Seward; two daughters, Mrs. B.N. (Nancy) Drum of League City, Texas and Mrs. Ray (Ardes) Vance on Arvada, Colorado; stepson, Howard Belz of Anaheim, California; two brothers, Elmer and Leonard Sperling both of Arlington; a sister, Mrs. John (Linda) Brinkmann of Fremont; fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife and a sister, Nadine.
