DONNA SWEENEY, 69

Donna J. Sweeney, 69, of Blair, died Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 28, at Country Bible Church in Blair. Interment was in the Blair Cemetery.

Donna Jane Mesler was born March 10, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa, to Kyle V. and Lucile M. (Maas) Mesler. She was a 1956 graduate of North High School in Des Moines. She later attended the University of Northern Iowa.

On Sept. 13, 1957, she married Robert E. Sweeney.

Mrs. Sweeney was involved in many church and community activites. She was a leader in Bible study fellowship. Her involvement at Country Bible Church included director of women's ministry, MOPS mentor, Bible study leader, Vacation Bible School helper, and youth group leader. She was also a 4-H leader.

She volunteered at the Open Door Mission and opend her home to its residents as well as missionsaries, residents of Glenwood State Hosptal, foreign exchange students, her husband's work associates, and many others.

Along with her husband, she was an active part of "Grandpa's Farm and Grandma's Attic Antiques."

She enjoyed preserving her family's history and displaying it through scrapbooking.

She enjoyed camping trips with her family; traveling around the world with her husband; and road trips to visit her children and grandchildren.

She encouraged many through letters, card and phone calls. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be remembered for her unique ability to understand, communicate and serve others while sharing the love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughters and sons-in-law, Janene and David Nagel of West Salem, Ohio, Barbara and Michael Rocher of Aurora, Colorado, Janet and Blair Hoegh of Ankeny, Iowa, and Alicia Sweeney, also of Aurora; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Beth Sweeney of Blair; and 12 grandchildren.

Memorials are suggested to Country Bible Church, the Omaha Christian Academy, Grace University or the Open Door Mission.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
