Vesta J. Beig, 77

Vesta J. Beig, 77, of Hartington, died April 10 2003, at Faith Regional Hospital in Norfolk. Funeral services were Monday, April 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hartington. Interment was in the Hartington City Cemetery.

Vesta June Beig was born June 12, 1925, in. Hastings to Leslie and Lulu (Landreth) Bacon. She grew up and lived in Hastings, graduating from Hastings High School.

On May 3, 1955, she married Robert L. Beig in Denver, Colo. Her husband gave her the nickname, “Betsy.” Mr. and Mrs. Beig moved to Hartington in 1957.

After her children were in school, Mrs. Beig worked at the Heimes Bakery, then at the Neu Cheese Company. She worked in the local cafe part-time before being employed by the Outdoorsmen in Hartington.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved family get-togethers with all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters.

Her favorite pastimes were riding around with her husband, going shopping with her children, and having coffee or Pepsi with her friends.

She loved to dance and was very good; she taught her children how to dance. She learned how to play the organ and enjoyed crossword puzzles and word games. She loved animals; as youngsters, her children always had a cat or dog or both, and the pets were treated as members of her family.

She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Jeannie (Hourigan) Lammers of Hartington; Peg (Hourigan) and Paul Wedel of Blair; Charlotte (Hourigan) and Fred Martinez ,of Henderson, Colo.; Jance (Hourigan) and Leonard Snook of Hartington; DeAnn Beig of Omaha; family friend, Sue Koch of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kim Beig of Jackpot, Nevada, 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Myrtle Bacon of Scottsbluff, Gordon and D’Ann Bacon of Brighton, Colo.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley Horn of Colorado Springs, Colo., Evonnee and Ed Kelly of Green Valley, Ariz., Margie Stromer of Glenvil, and Gloria and Rick Hill of Hastings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; son, Dan Hourigan; sister, Darlene Bacon; brother, Ray Bacon; son- in-law, Harold Lammers.
