Gerald R. Carlson, 88

Gerald R. Carlson, 88, of Fremont, died Monday, March 23, 2015, at Fremont Health.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 26, at Full Life Assembly of God Church in Fremont with Pastor Mike Washburn officiating . Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by the Oakland Honor Guard V.F.W. Post 5543. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Fremont with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.

Gerald was born April 18, 1926, in Oakland, to Oscar and Anna (Nelson) Carlson. Gerald earned his GED as an adult. He served in the U.S. Army in the World War II era as a military police officer in the Philippine Islands.

He married Nelda L. Novak on Jan. 9, 1953, in Fremont. To this marriage, four children were born: Stan, Carolee, Janet and Joyce.

His first love was farming. He was a farmer in Nebraska, Texas and Missouri. Gerald worked for Western/Lucent Technologies organization in Omaha, Atlanta, Ga., and Orlando, Fla. He retired after 25 years in 1996. Gerald was known as a hard worker.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nelda; son Stan (Janine) Carlson of Arlington; daughters: Carolee (Randy) Bundy of Carl Junction, Mo., and Janet (Dusty) Green of Linden, Texas; sisters: Donna Gagliani of Fremont and Joy (Leo) Bowland of Tekamah; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Joyce; and brother Darrel Carlson.

Memorials may be directed to Full Life Assembly of God Church in Fremont and Fremont Alzheimer's Association.
