A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 7 at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mondamin, Iowa for James Cleaver of Modale, Iowa who passed away suddenly on March 3, 1991 at Missouri Valley, Iowa, having suffered a heart attack.

James David Cleaver was born December 7, 1928 at Modale, Iowa to James and Beatrice Hudson Cleaver. He received his education at Modale, Iowa.

In 1952 he entered the U. S. Army during the Korean War, and served until 1954.

On March 19, 1955 he married Elaine Boehnke at Papillion, Nebraska.

He was a brick layer for Local Union No. 1 from 1964 until ill health forced his early retirement in 1986.

He was a past city councilman at Modale, Iowa; church council member at Holy Family Catholic Church; active member of the Woodmen of the World Lodge 635 in Missouri Valley, Iowa; and leader of the Boys Unit No. 636. He was a member of Missouri Valley VFW Post No. 9731 and Modale American Legion Post No. 695.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clifford.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine of Modale, Iowa; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Eric Rider, Logan, Iowa; son and daughter-in-law, James W. and Denise Cleaver, Modale, Iowa; and one granddaughter, Kay Cleaver.

Campbell-Aman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
