CLAUDE CLEMENTS FUNERAL TO BE FRIDAY MORNING

Services will be Friday, July 9, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Blair for Claude E. Clements who died Wednesday, July 5, at the Blair Hospital at the age of 85. Reverend James Metzgar will officiate at the services.

Interment will be in the Herman Cemetery. Masonic Rites will be given graveside by the Herman Lodge.

Claude E. Clements was born December 11, 1892, to Lewis G. and Nellie Yowell Clements in Herman. He married Irene Lowe.

He homesteaded in the Gillette, Wyoming area and farmed during his lifetime. He was also with the Police and Sheriff’s Offices in Blair.

He is survived by his wife, Irene of Blair and three sons, Eugene Clements, Wilbur Clements, both of Blair and Vernon Clements of Herman. Ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive him.

Pallbearers will be Roger Clements, Saylor Clements, Kent Clements, Ervin Clements, Alvin Pechnik, Ned Maryott, and Richard Schneider.

Campbell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements for the services.

Ex-Official Dies at Blair

Blair, Neb. – Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church in Blair for Claude E. Clements, former Blair police chief and Washington County deputy sheriff who died Wednesday at age 85.

Clements substituted for former Blair Sheriff Burleigh Sutherland Jr. when Sutherland was hospitalized with pneumonia in 1967. Clements, then 74 and retired from his post as chief of police, was the town’s only law force for several days.

Clements is survived by his wife, Irene, of Blair; three sons, Eugene and Wilbur of Blair, and Vernon of Herman; one sister, pearl Hackett of Gillette, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He will be buried in Herman Cemetery.
